The report lays out the connectivity targets for 2030. The report includes the usual internet penetration targets, but it also lays speed targets for fixed broadband and for schools. For schools, the minimum download speed per student is 50 kbit\/s. Two notable business opportunities are from Starlink and Intelsat. Starlink is <a href=\"https:\/\/spacenews.com\/starlink-approved-in-nigeria-and-mozambique-says-elon-musk\/\">planning on launching in Mozambique and Nigeria <\/a>in the 3rd quarter of this year. Intelsat has launched <a href=\"https:\/\/www.balancingact-africa.com\/news\/telecoms-en\/47608\">Intelsat CellBackhaul in the DRC<\/a>. The service provides backhaul services to remote places using a combination of terrestrial and satellite services. Intelsat manages all the ground and satellite infrastructure providing a single point of contact and price for MNOs. There are plenty of <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2021\/01\/21\/google-alphabet-is-shutting-down-loon-internet\/\">failed business models<\/a> for remote connectivity, so we\u2019ll watch closely as these business launch and hopefully gain traction.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>Other news from around Africa<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/b><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li>Kenya\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/itweb.africa\/content\/DZQ58MV86ZkvzXy2?utm_source=dailyEnews_leadLink&amp;utm_medium=email\">ICT Practitioner Bill<\/a> rejected: President Kenyatta has refused to sign the ICT Practitioners Bill that would have required all people working in the ICT sector to have a university degree, have at least three years\u2019 experience and pay an annual fee.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Namibia\u2019s first <a href=\"https:\/\/itweb.africa\/content\/4r1lyMR91OP7pmda?utm_source=dailyEnews_link&amp;utm_medium=email\">carrier-neutral data centre<\/a>: Paratus has launched Namibia\u2019s first carrier-neutral data centre, providing connections to multiple carriers and therefore greater resilience.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/developingtelecoms.com\/telecom-technology\/consumer-ecosystems\/13643-nigeria-s-home-grown-e-commerce-sector-awaits-the-arrival-of-amazon.html\">Amazon in Africa<\/a>: There are rumours that Amazon is planning to launch in Nigeria and South Africa in June 2023.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/developingtelecoms.com\/telecom-business\/operator-news\/13645-cell-c-says-5g-is-on-the-way-as-debt-uncertainty-continues.html\">Cell C in South Africa<\/a>: Though Cell C operates 50% of its network virtually (i.e., using other operator\u2019s infrastructure), it is planning on launching 5G using spectrum it purchased for USD18.2 million. However, these plans may not come to fruition unless a debt deal is finalized to recapitalize the company.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/developingtelecoms.com\/telecom-business\/operator-news\/13632-mtc-hits-out-at-namibia-s-5g-moratorium-as-it-partners-with-huawei-and-nust.html\">Namibia\u2019s 5G moratorium<\/a>: MTC has called on the Namibian government to end its moratorium on 5G.
